Read about Flesh Not Eat This now

I’m going to go out on a limb here. Let me get right to the point: This is a terrible book.

Harsh? Maybe, but that’s how it is. About the time Artemis Fowl hit the market, I heard it claimed that Eoin Colfer was 14 when he wrote it. On some simple checking of dates, the claim seems unlikely (he was 36 when it was published). But the book is so badly written that it’s believable. If this was fanfic, everyone would be pointing at the protagonist and shouting “Gary Stu! Gary Stu!” (If that doesn’t ring any bells, try looking up “Mary Sue” instead.) The descriptive style … well, what can one say about the descriptive style? Phil Foglio uses some very similar characterisations in his Myth books. (Compare Guido and Nunzio to Fowl’s butler, for example.) The difference is, Foglio is writing humorous — and occasionally risqué — parody (and doing a good job of it) … but Colfer is serious. And it just doesn’t work. The characters are cardboard and flat; the plot is predictable and stereotyped, and yet manages to strain even a teenager’s willing suspension of disbelief with its excesses of “But wait, there’s more.”

Granted, this is supposed to be “young adult” fiction. But so is Harry Potter; and the qualkity of writing and plot development in Harry Potter are so far above Artemis Fowl that there’s scarcely any comparision. I know if anyone had given me a copy of Artemis Fowl when I was a “young adult”, I’d have been insulted that they thought my reading level was so low.

Let Cake Eat Me ok or not

A wonderful celebration of family and food. I would venture to guess that everyone on the planet has at least one “cake memory” and you will bask in the glow of that memory while enjoying this book. Leslie Miller truly captures the essence of comfort food. I laughed out loud at her wit and cried reveling the memory of my grandmother’s baking. You can’t miss with this one!

Them Cake Eat Let forever

Sandra Byrd paints a story that put me smack dab in the middle of the action. I related to the main character’s journey as the powerful and subtle metaphors echoed my own life experiences. Issues of meaning, friendship, love, family and worship are explored in the life of this 20-something woman named Alexandra (Lexi). Bonus: she is a true foodie, thus inclusions of mouth watering recipes. The book creatively unfolds in vivid word pictures that include many pop culture references (from Russell Crowe to Simon & Garfunkel) and adding special relevance to the mix. I laughed and cried and found myself wondering what happens to Lexi after reading the last page. Good stuff!

Why Eat It

I absolutely love this watch. I was a little nervous about buying it after reading some bad reviews but I am soooo glad I bought it. It is true, it takes some time to acquire the satellite signal but I have not experienced a drop in the signal.
The GPS is very accurate. I mapped my route before running and when the watch said I was done… I was done! You can set it to let you know when you reach certain distances. I have mine beep every mile and it helps my runs along. Also, I love breakdown it does, on the computer and the actual watch. Based on your settings it let’s you know what your pace was for each interval, your average heart rate, and your max heart rate. Another plus is that it is very easy to load my runs from my Forerunner 305 to my [...] profile. And based on the information you can plot different parts of your runs against each other.

I must say I just LOVE this watch and you should definitely get one!!!
